The End is Nigh

While we were all watching Stargazing Live last night on the BBC (did anyone watch the partial solar eclipse this morning, by the way?), we failed to notice that the ground was shaking beneath our feet, as a 3.6 ML earthquake struck the region of Ripon, over 6 km underground. Who can forget the 3.1 ML earthquake in Skipton in 1900, or, indeed, the massive 4.8 ML havoc-wreaker in Wensleydale, in 1780.

These events, coupled with the upcoming demise of Betelgeuse, one of the stars of the Orion constellation, the end of the world seems imminent to me.
